Sika® Retarder IQ

Set retarding admixture

Sika® Retarder IQ is a highly efficient retarding admixture which delays the initial setting time of concrete.

  1. Reduces the rate of hydration of cement and controls concrete temperature.
  2. Improves slump retention and retards set time of concrete.
  3. Provides sufficient time for placement and finishing of concrete without cold joints in hot weather conditions.
  4. In mass concrete pours, Sika® Retarder IQ controls temperature rise and reduces the risk of thermal cracking.

Usage

1- Large volume pours. 2- Avoidance of cold joints. 3- Construction joints without formwork. 4- Long hauls. 5- Difficult placing conditions. 6- Elevated temperatures. 7- Re-vibrated concrete.

Composition

Phosphate & phosphonate liquid blend

Shelf life

12 months from date of production if stored properly in undamaged unopened, original sealed packaging.

Storage conditions

In dry conditions at temperatures between +5°C and +35°C. Protect from direct sunlight. It requires recirculation when held in storage for extended periods.

Technical Information

Concreting guidance

The standard rules of good concreting practice, concerning production and placing, are to be followed. Laboratory trials shall be carried out before concreting on site, especially when using a new mix design or producing new concrete components. Fresh concrete must be cured properly and curing applied as early as possible.

Dispensing

Sika® Retarder IQ is added to the gauging water or added with it into the concrete mixer. 

Sika® Retarder IQ shall not be added to dry cement.

Compatibility

Sika® Retarder IQ can be used in conjunction with : 

  1. SikaPlastoCrete®N
  2. Sika®Aer
  3. SikaFiber®
  4. Sikament®
  5. Sika®ViscoCrete®

When admixture combined , dispensing of the admixture should start with superplasticizer, subsequently Sika® Retarder IQ should be added and if it is necessary , finally Sika®Aer should be added .

Never mix admixtures with each other .

Trials are recommended before combining products .
Consumption

Recommended dosage

( 0.2 % - 2 % ) by weight of total cementitious materials.

The retardation rate achieved is directly dependent on the dosage rate which in turn is influenced by quality of cement, aggregates, w/b ratio and temperatures.
